Madison County Adult Education
Instructor: Part-Time, 20-24 hours per week
Starting Pay Range: $20-$23 per hour
As an instructor you will provide contextualized academic instruction to adult education
students. Instructors implement plans, create and finalize documents, evaluate instructional
practices, procedures, and materials.
All instruction must be aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards, the English
Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), KYAE Employability Standards, and to KYAE
performance metrics.
Provides instruction in literacy, adult basic education, GEDR test preparation, English language
acquisition, family literacy, Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE),
workforce preparation, integrated education and training, including College and Career Pathway
Plans, workplace education, and/or digital literacy. The content area of instruction is determined
by the Program Director. Other responsibilities include:
- Applies instructional practices that incorporate the regular use of computers and other
educational and emerging technologies.
- Is knowledgeable of reading, writing, and/or math instructional strategies.
- Uses instructional strategies, research-based instructional best practices, and edtech tools
appropriate to the needs of adult students.
- Uses standards-aligned lesson plans addressing diagnostic test reports.
- Provides continuous, data-driven feedback to students and adjusts instruction to optimize
student learning outcomes.
- Administers and interprets appropriate placement and diagnostic tests when necessary.
- Applies adult education principles and methods in the classroom.
- Facilitates the transfer of learned skills from the classroom to the job.
- Plans learning experiences that are interactive and relevant to the specific workforce
environment stated within the students’ College and Career Pathway Plan.
- Customizes, develops, and delivers workforce-focused standards-based curricula and
lesson plans.
- At a minimum, dedicates 75% of time to scheduled instruction in the classroom or labs.
- Recruits students.
- Partners with community employers to meet employee needs for upskilling of existing
and potential employees through adult education.
- Interacts and communicates regularly with College and Career Navigator to develop and
participate in strategies for sustaining student communication and student retention.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Instructors must be digitally literate and proficient in using digital tools for communication,
professional learning, and instruction. Digital literacy includes “the skills associated with using
technology to enable users to find, evaluate, organize, create, and communicate information; and
developing digital citizenship and the responsible use of technology.”
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
All new instructors must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. A degree in education or a
content-related field is preferred.
- Must complete the TABE 13/14 (Test of Adult Basic Education) upon employment.
- Math Instructors must take and score within NRS Level 6 in Mathematics and Reading.
- Reading Instructors must take and score within NRS Level 6 in Reading.
- If an instructor teaches in more than one area, they must score within NRS Level 6 in
each content area they teach.
New Instructors must complete new instructor training and orientation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE POSITION:
- Must be flexible and willing to assist other adult education sites in our region.
- Oversee student assessments for education and businesses.
(TABE, KY Para Educator, Bennett-Mechanical, etc.)
- Must attend staff meetings and staff trainings.
