Safety and Security Superivsor - Central Office

Job Goal: To ensure best practices and integrity of security operations across all school campuses, administrative buildings, and athletic facilities throughout the district. 

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of three years working in a school setting required
2. Experience in a security-related field and emergency management preferred
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Reports To: Coordinator of Safety, Security, & Emergency Management

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks. 

Student Safety & Security:  Madison City Schools prioritizes a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with students, use district-approved channels for communications, and avoid interactions that could be perceived as favoritism, grooming, or undue familiarity. Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law. Compliance with these expectations is a condition of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Experience in evaluating, planning, coordinating, and implementing security and emergency management measures.
2. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
3. Strong written and oral communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
4. Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, Google Docs, and other software to increase job efficiency and effectiveness.
5. Physical mobility and visual acuity to visit schools, work sites, and to perform required work as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment.
6. Knowledge of how school district buildings and facilities are organized.
7. Knowledge of best safety and security practices for school district buildings and facilities.

Essential Functions:

1. Conduct audits of security measures throughout the district and compile related audit reports.
2. Assist with emergency operation plan completion and implementation.
3. Assist with security and emergency management drills and tabletop exercises.
4. Assist with annual mandatory safety training completion and implementation.
5. Assess overall security and emergency management posture of school district buildings and facilities.
6. Serve as liaison between security officers and district.
7. Serve as liaison between school resource officers and district. 
8. Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

• This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.

• Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 240 days (full year) 

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.
