Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Mechanical knowledge
- Current CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement
- Be insurable with our insurance company and maintain status
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Reports to: Transportation Supervisor/Shop Foreman/Administrative Assistant/Office Manager
Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.
Student Safety & Security: Madison City Schools prioritizes a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with students, use district-approved channels for communications, and avoid interactions that could be perceived as favoritism, grooming, or undue familiarity. Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law. Compliance with these expectations is a condition of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Able to drive route when necessary
- Knowledge of tools and basic equipment
- Able to do minor mechanical work (i.e. oil change, grease, etc.)
- Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets
- Working knowledge of databases
- Organized and attentive to details
- Experience with scheduling
- Excellent communication skills
Essential Functions:
- Help keep shop clean
- Work with mechanics as needed
- Be able to lift, climb, drive, and operate power tools
- Help with parts inventory and storage
- Maintain accurate records
- Perform other duties as assigned
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Contract Period: 240 days/8 hrs. (full contract)
Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.
Salary Range: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
