In order to attract and retain special educators, MCS offers stipends for special educators after paying the highest salaries in the area. Special education staff earn stipends of $1,000 for special educators and an additional $8,000 for students teaching in the self-contained classrooms.


District Description Madison City Schools, located in Madison, Alabama, is one of the three located in Madison, County. The district includes two high schools, three middle schools, eight elementary schools, and a PreK center, which offers comprehensive educational opportunities for learners of all ages. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Special Education Teacher focusing on inclusion and Resource Services. These Inclusion/Collab positions are available in the elementary, middle and high schools in MCS. The Special Education Teacher will plan, deliver, and adapt instruction to meet the individualized education program (IEP) goals of students with diverse learning needs, ensuring access to the general curriculum where appropriate. Responsibilities include assessing student needs, developing IEPs, monitoring progress, and maintaining accurate documentation in compliance with district and state regulations. The role involves collaborating closely with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and support staff to create inclusive learning environments and effective behavior and academic support strategies. The teacher will also participate in IEP meetings, professional development, and school initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for students receiving special education services.


Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a range of Disabilities and the ability to design appropriate instructional and behavioral supports.
  • Demonstrated Teaching and Special Education skills, including planning, differentiation, and progress monitoring.
  • Experience or strong interest in Middle School settings and adolescent development.
  • Effective Communication skills for collaborating with students, families, colleagues, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education or eligibility for certification in Alabama.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field.
  • Ability to implement IEPs, use data to inform instruction, and maintain compliance with IDEA and state regulations.
  • Strong classroom management, organization, and technology skills to support instruction and documentation.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and positive student outcomes in a diverse school community.
