Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated competency in typing and word processing
- Formal training beyond high school preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Reports To: Principal or Appropriate Supervisor
Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.
Student Safety & Security: Madison City Schools prioritizes a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Employees are expected to model professional conduct, maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with students, use district-approved channels for communications, and avoid interactions that could be perceived as favoritism, grooming, or undue familiarity. Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law. Compliance with these expectations is a condition of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge and skills in operation of computer programs and related technology.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, administrators, teachers and other co-workers.
- Be capable of moving and lifting moderately heavy weights.
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
Essential Functions:
- Answers telephone and meets the public.
- Receive, read and respond to parent notes regarding absences.
- Record all appropriate CODES for student absences from class period.
- Reconcile all period attendance with daily attendance.
- Work with substitutes to take class attendance and the recording of such attendance.
- Notify administration of teachers who have not recorded attendance.
- Notify administration of students who are chronically absent or truant.
- Send notifications to parents of truant absences.
- Work with administration during truancy meetings.
- Receives, examines, and routes incoming mail and correspondence.
- Prepares material for the beginning and end of the school year.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school personnel and students.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment: 187 days/8hrs (full year)
Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines
Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years’ experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
