The Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 1 or 2 position includes a combination of project management and leadership responsibilities for short-term and long-term projects as well as day to day operational technical support. This employee will monitor and direct activities of consultants, contractors, and manufacturers while managing activities of their own projects, planning and design functions. This employee will also provide real time data and reports as requested by Metro Transit Management. This position reports to the Transit Chief Operating Officer.

The successful candidate will be hired as a Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 1 or 2 level based on qualifications, and the level will be determined at the time of hire. Starting salary for the Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 1 is $83,452.98. Starting salary for the Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 2 is $91,228.28. 

Progression to a Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 2 is not automatic but is dependent upon the employee taking on additional duties and responsibilities, as well as the independent application of professional judgment.

Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 1

Vehicle and Facilities Maintenance Support
  • Develop preventative maintenance plans for new programs such as zero-emission buses and charging infrastructure and coordinate with staff to ensure compliance
  • Provide technical and quality assurance guidance to maintenance team

Project Management
  • Serve as team lead on zero-emission facility-related projects, including charging infrastructure, electrical systems, and future microgrid solutions
  • Serve as primary liaison with vendors, utility providers, manufacturers, and contractors
  • Lead long-term planning for Metro's fleet, including expansion strategies, lifecycle planning, and integration into City climate goals
  • Collaborate with planning staff to maximize the utilization of zero-emission buses
  • Monitor key performance indicators and provide input into budget
     
 Develop Policies and Reports
  • Develop and maintain policies, reports, and cost-projections related to zero-emission fleet
  • Draft public messages to describe planning efforts and descriptions of progress
  • Write monthly summaries for internal communication
Perform related work as assigned.

Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 2

  • All the duties of Vehicle & Charging Integration Engineer 1 with a higher degree of judgment, discretion, and initiative
  • Manage the interface with utilities, coordinating energy supply requirement, and ensure adherence to all regulatory standards
  • Oversee the development of electrical schematics, diagrams, and layouts related to charging infrastructure, promoting seamless integration with mechanical and software systems
  • Prepare and review/modify contract scopes of work, review proposals, recommend contract execution and administer contracts
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control oversight for contracts
  • Develop technical specifications, testing programs, procedures, and standards for Metro Transit's advanced bus technology project activities

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or other related engineering field
OR
  • Associate's degree in automotive technology, engineering technology or related field
  • Two (2) years of project management experience with vehicle design or manufacturing, high-voltage electrical systems or charging systems, advanced vehicle technology systems, or related field
OR 
  • Four (4) years of project management experience with vehicle design or manufacturing, high-voltage electrical systems or charging systems, advanced vehicle technology systems, or related field; including 
  • Two (2) years of experience with:
    • engineering principles and practices, particularly as they relate to the design and maintenance of heavy duty and electric vehicles
    • using computer software applicable to the duties of the position
    • foundations of project management (planning, execution, etc.)
Ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Work in this position is primarily performed in an office environment. However, the employee will be expected to physically access all areas of the Metro Transit facilities, board a variety of buses, and traverse construction sites.

Employees may be expected to work or attend meetings during the evening or on weekends as necessary and occasionally travel. This employee will work on-site. It is not a remote employment position.

Salary : $83,453 - $110,140
