We are seeking a motivated professional Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will contribute to the design, management, and construction of a wide range of public works projects—including streets, sidewalks, bikeways, and other transportation improvements—working both in the office and in the field. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and supervisors who provide guidance, review your work, and support high-quality project delivery.
Salary Ranges:
- Engineer 2 - $79,210.30 - $93,996.50/year (CG 18, R08)
- Engineer 3 - $85,983.30 - $103,336.48/year (CG18, R10)
Initial placement is based on your training and experience at the time of hire.
Career Progression:
The series is structured to provide for career progression from Engineer 2 to 3 based on increased employee expertise and responsibility, independence of action, and experience in and knowledge of City systems and processes associated with the work.

- Perform all work of an Engineer 1 with greater professional expertise and responsibility for the completion of major project components.
- Apply broad professional expertise and assume independent responsibility for the completion and management of major project components.
- Prepare or coordinate the preparation of designs, plans, and specifications for a wide variety of transportation related public works projects.
- Assist field staff in interpreting plans and specifications and resolving utility conflicts.
- Prepare project and construction cost estimates and approve contractor payments.
- Perform special engineering studies including construction materials studies and tests.
- Review plats, conditional use permits and outside plans and specifications for compliance with City standards and policies and state and federal regulations.
- Coordinate project components and schedules with other departments and agencies.
- Prepare final assessments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
- One (1) year of professional engineering experience in the design and construction of public works and/or private development projects; AND
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. May 2026 graduates are welcome to apply.
Two (2) years of experience in applying the following:
- Civil engineering design and construction principles, practices, materials and inspection techniques.
- Computer software applicable to the duties of the position including design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).
To be hired as an Engineer 3, one (1) year of professional engineering experience in the design and construction of public works and/or private development projects AND a Bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a closely related field, AND possession of a valid Certificate of Engineer in Training is required.

- Must be able to attend occasional evening meetings.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to walk on uneven terrain to make field or on-site evaluations to determine existing conditions for design, maintenance, problem solving and construction.
- Must be able to work at a sit/stand desk using standard office equipment.
