Join our team at Madison Public Library and help shape the future of library technology! Under the guidance of the Library Facilities Manager and in collaboration with our experienced Library IT Specialist 3, you’ll play a key role in planning, developing, and supporting a wide range of technology systems. This position involves close collaboration with the City’s Information Technology Department, the South Central Library System (SCLS), private contractors, and other public and private partners. You'll have the opportunity to support both patrons and staff in navigating the complexities of the digital age, ensuring that this valued public institution remains relevant and responsive to community needs. This series is structured to provide advancement from Library IT Specialist 1 to Library IT Specialist 2, as a function of the employee's career development and generally occurs after two (2) years.

Hours: 
Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:45pm, with occasional evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities as needed to support library operations and technology systems.

Support Library Technology 

  • Review, prioritize, and resolve work orders.
  • Troubleshoot technology equipment/systems.
  • Train staff on new or existing technology, including coordinating training documentation.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, patching, and health testing.

Coordinate Technology Procurements/Upgrades 

  • Create technology plans for new and updated technology.
  • Assist with the procurement of new/replaced technology within the City and SCLS framework.
  • Evaluate existing technologies and make recommendations based on reports/data. 
  • Assist with the implementation of new technology platforms. 
  • Track and recommend budget or technology with the Library IT Specialist 3, and reconcile purchases. 

Solution Development

  • Design, develop, and implement digital solutions to meet the library’s growing IT needs.
  • Perform continued testing and debugging.
  • Provide technical documentation.

Network and Technology Coordination 

  • Act as supporting liaison with City of Madison IT Department and SCLS.
  • Coordinate technology with qualified outside vendors/partners, and management.

Miscellaneous
  • Investigate and prioritize equitable and accessible technology applications.
  • Foster community through a commitment to continued personal growth, specifically in the areas of racial equity and social justice.
  • Stay current with modern library technologies and frameworks.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Two (2) years of experience with the following:

  • Relevant personal computer technology and standardized system applications (hardware and software). 
  • Standardized support, maintenance and operation criteria for computer systems. 
  • Use and teach various computer applications for Windows and IOS.

-OR-
  • Associate's degree in computer science or a closely related field AND;
  • One (1) year of directly related experience supporting information systems or technology

-OR-

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a closely related field

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position. Employees in this classification who provide their own vehicle to assist at various locations will be reimbursed for mileage and parking.
  • This position may require work on some nights and weekends. Inclusion in an after-hours support rotation is required.

    Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to perform primarily sedentary work in an office environment.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as a telephone, computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Ability to demonstrate the physical strength, coordination, and acuity required to set up, install, and test computers and related equipment 

Salary : $70,855
