Position Overview
The Madison-Champaign ESC is seeking a reliable, hardworking Custodian to support the cleanliness, safety, and overall maintenance of our facilities. This position plays an important role in maintaining a positive learning and working environment across all ESC buildings.
This role will primarily work 1st shift or a swing shift to provide coverage for other custodial staff as needed.
Work Schedule & Location
- Full-Time, 260-day contract
- Primarily 1st shift or swing shift based on coverage needs
- Assigned to work across multiple ESC buildings
- Supports day custodians at each facility
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine custodial duties, including cleaning, sanitizing, and waste removal
- Clean floors (sweep, mop, strip, wax), restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas
- Move and arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed
- Support building operations such as deliveries, event setup/cleanup, and safety checks
- Monitor building conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns
- Assist with groundskeeping and seasonal tasks (e.g., snow removal) as needed
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of chemicals and equipment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including:
- Moving furniture and equipment
- Handling trash and supplies
- Working on ladders or lifts
- Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods
- Additional Requirements
- Reliable transportation (required, as this role works across multiple locations)
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
