What are the responsibilities and job description for the Media & Communications Intern (School Credit) - 2026-27 Season position at Madison Capitols?
Description
Lights. Camera. Hockey.
The Madison Capitols are looking for Media and Communication Interns who are ready to jump into the action and help tell the story of our team in creative, exciting, and meaningful ways. This is not a sit back and watch internship. This is your chance to create, write, and bring moments to life from viral social media content to behind the scenes storytelling.
You will work closely with our creative team to shape how fans experience Capitols hockey both in the building and online.

If you love sports, love content, and have ideas you have been waiting to try, this is your stage.
What You’ll Do
You will be part of the creative engine:
- Help grow our TikTok and Instagram Reels with fresh, trend driven content
- Capture, create, and post content during games, practices, and events
- Write game recaps, player features, and stories that fans actually want to read
- Contribute ideas and collaborate with our creative team on campaigns and content
- Assist with live game coverage across social platforms
- Support game night media operations and behind the scenes needs
What This Role Looks Like
- Availability for home games including nights, weekends, and some holidays
- At least 8 office hours per week working alongside our creative team
- A fast paced, team first environment where no two days look the same
What We’re Looking For
Do not worry about being perfect. If this sounds like you, we would love to meet you:
- You love social media and naturally think in TikToks, Reels, and trends
- You enjoy writing and telling stories in your own voice
- You are creative, dependable, and not afraid to share ideas
- You bring positive energy and enjoy working as part of a team
- You take initiative and find ways to make things better
Bonus points if you have experience with Adobe Creative Suite such as Photoshop or Premiere Pro, but it is not required.
A Quick Reality Check
Working in sports is different than being a fan. Some of the most important roles happen behind the scenes, which means you may not always be watching the game. You will be helping create the experience around it.
If that excites you more than sitting in a seat, you are in the right place.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, or a related field.
- Interest in hockey and understanding of the game is helpful
This is an unpaid internship designed for students seeking school credit or hands on experience to build their portfolio.
