Are you ready to lead a team dedicated to ensuring Veterans achieve housing stability and independence? Madison Avenue Support Services Inc. (MASS) is seeking a Housing Support Specialist – Supervisor to oversee 24/7/365 operations at the 250 Kearny Street Project, a permanent supportive housing program for formerly unhoused Veterans in San Francisco. This leadership role ensures the smooth functioning of the program, maintains a safe and supportive environment, and upholds the principles of the Housing First approach.

Position Overview

The Housing Support Specialist – Supervisor is a working supervisor position responsible for providing on-site leadership to Housing Support Specialists, ensuring consistent service delivery, adherence to program standards, and effective communication with VA clinical teams. This role combines supervisory oversight with direct engagement, including building monitoring, safety checks, conflict de-escalation, and emergency response. The Supervisor acts as the primary point of contact for staff and liaises with the Program Manager to address operational needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Staff Supervision & Team Coordination

  • Provide daily oversight, scheduling, and direction to Housing Support Specialists to maintain continuous building coverage.
  • Conduct regular team briefings, ensure consistent handoff between shifts, and monitor staff performance.
  • Offer guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to ensure adherence to trauma-informed and Housing First principles.

2. Program Operations & Monitoring

  • Oversee building monitoring and security, ensuring consistent documentation of resident welfare checks and incidents.
  • Coordinate with VA clinical staff to address tenant concerns and maintain collaborative case management.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex non-clinical issues and incidents when VA staff are off-site.

3. Crisis & Incident Management

  • Lead staff in conflict de-escalation and resolution of interpersonal disputes between residents.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of incident reports and communication to VA Social Work staff.
  • Oversee emergency response protocols, including coordination with 911, VA contacts, and MASS leadership.

4. Housing First & Resident Engagement

  • Uphold the Housing First model, prioritizing stable housing without preconditions.
  • Support a respectful, non-judgmental environment that promotes resident autonomy and long-term stability.

5. Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities

  • Maintain shift logs, incident reports, and staff attendance records.
  • Provide weekly operational updates to the Program Manager.
  • Participate in program meetings, site inspections, and quality assurance reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary education or certifications in human services, peer support, crisis management, or leadership preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in housing, shelter, behavioral health, or related fields, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Experience working with Veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, or populations with behavioral health needs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Understanding of trauma, mental health, substance use, and harm-reduction practices.
  • Must pass background check.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $25.43 - $32.71 per hour
