POSITION SUMMARY:

This position works closely with the Aquatics and Senior Aquatics Director in developing, coordinating, and managing the Masters Swim Program in a safe and responsible manner. This person will be provided with general supervision by the Aquatics leadership team and will need to be organized, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to successfully manage the programs with minimal direct supervision. This candidate will plan, organize and develop swimming workouts for members of various skills and developmental needs. Instructs members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Build positive relationships with swimmers and members while promoting programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, coordinates, and manages the Masters Swim Program in a safe and responsible manner
  • Writes all Masters Swim practices and supervises all Masters Assistant Coaches.
  • Creates and executes training programs to assist swimmers to achieve their individual goals.
  • Provides swimmers the opportunity to improve technique, strength and swimming stamina.
  • Identifies and recruits strong talent to help develop a successful swim program.
  • Builds positive relationships with swimmers and members while promoting programs.
  • Oversees program participants at Masters Competitions.


Philanthropy:


All YMCA staff are accountable for understanding the organization’s charitable status and mission to assure access for all through active participation in fundraising and philanthropy efforts.

  • Work with the Development Team, HR and key philanthropy volunteers to increase your understanding and skill set.
  • Train, mentor, equip and hold your staff accountable for participating in the annual campaign by identifying and recruiting member volunteers and soliciting donations.
  • Build strategic relationships with members for year round member cultivation to increase the number of member campaign volunteers and donors.
  • Assist in achieving your department annual support campaign goal by directly and personally participating in campaign efforts and ongoing fundraising by identifying new volunteers and potential new donors.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a similar role coaching and writing aquatics curriculum for competitive and/or recreational swimmers
  • Competitive swimming experience or knowledge thereof
  • Knowledge of stroke mechanics and proficiency in teaching stroke development, stroke correction, and proper technique
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor, provide leadership, and exhibit a positive, team-building attitude
  • Physical demands including the ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques (out of and in the water), lift and move light pool equipment
  • Organized, self-motivated, resourceful
  • Ability to motivate adult athletes in a positive manner
  • Attain and Maintain all certifciatons required by YMCA, USA or USMS Swimming.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work irregular work hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Ability to administer first aid.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
  • Must be able to spend extended time in swimming pools.
