What are the responsibilities and job description for the Performance Automotive Technician/Mechanic position at Mad hatter garage?
Performance Automotive Technician / Mechanic
Mad Hatter Garage is looking for an experienced Performance Automotive Technician / Mechanic to join our team.
We are not a typical repair shop. Our work includes performance builds, engine swaps, forced-induction systems, custom fabrication, diagnostics, tuning-related mechanical work, suspension upgrades, and complete vehicle builds. We are looking for someone who understands performance vehicles, takes pride in doing things correctly, and can work through problems rather than simply replacing parts.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on performance and modified vehicles
- Perform engine removal, installation, repair, and replacement
- Install performance engines, superchargers, turbo systems, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and supporting components
- Perform suspension, steering, brake, and drivetrain repairs and upgrades
- Perform transmission removal and installation
- Troubleshoot modified vehicles where factory service procedures may not tell the entire story
- Read wiring diagrams and perform basic electrical diagnosis
- Identify problems during a build and communicate what is needed to correct them
- Perform routine maintenance and general automotive repair when required
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Properly document work performed and parts needed
- Inspect completed work before vehicles leave the shop
- Work with other technicians and management to complete projects efficiently and correctly
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate has professional automotive repair experience and a strong mechanical background. Performance-shop, race-car, fabrication, or custom-build experience is a major plus.
You should be comfortable working independently and be capable of diagnosing a problem instead of needing every step provided to you.
Preferred experience includes:
- Engine swaps and engine replacement
- Turbocharger and supercharger installations
- Fuel-system upgrades
- Performance exhaust systems
- Suspension and brake upgrades
- Drivetrain and transmission work
- Automotive electrical diagnosis
- Modified and high-horsepower vehicles
- Welding/fabrication experience is a plus
- Aftermarket EFI and tuning-system familiarity is a plus
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- Professional automotive technician/mechanic experience
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment and power tools
- Ability to work efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Attention to detail
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers and management
- Must take responsibility for the quality of your own work
This Position Is a Good Fit If You:
Enjoy figuring out difficult problems, like working on modified vehicles, and take pride in seeing a build completed correctly.
We want someone who can look at a problem, understand how the system works, diagnose what is actually wrong, and develop a solution.
We value quality, reliability, productivity, and accountability. We would rather have a technician who does the job correctly the first time than someone who rushes through work and creates problems for the next person.
If you have experience working on performance vehicles and are looking for a shop where you can work on more than basic maintenance and factory repairs, we would like to hear from you.
