Position Summary
The Private Label Apparel Design Intern supports the US Wholesale Missy Private Label Design team by assisting with the development of trend-right apparel concepts, CAD sketches and seasonal presentations. This role offers hands-on experience within a fast-paced apparel environment, providing exposure to the full design workflow – from concept and development through pre-production. The intern will gain practical understanding of how design collaborates with Merchandising, Product Development, Technical Design and Sales to bring commercially viable product to market. This is an ideal opportunity for students or early-career designers who want to build their portfolio and learn the fundamentals of private-label apparel design within an industry-leading company.
Key Responsibilities
Design Support
- Assist Designers in creating apparel sketches, CADs and tech packs for seasonal assortments.
- Prepare presentation boards, line sheets and visual tools for internal reviews and retailer meetings.
- Update sketches, CAD pages and design files based on team feedback.
- Help develop fabric, silhouette and trim options that support seasonal design direction.
Trend & Market Research
- Gather visual inspiration, runway references and seasonal research relevant to the Missy customer.
- Assist in building trend, color and concept boards to support design direction.
- Conduct competitive research across mass retail, e-commerce and emerging apparel trends.
File & Asset Management
- Organize CAD libraries, sketches, seasonal folders and digital assets.
- Maintain clean and updated design files, templates and documentation.
- Support sample organization, labeling, and preparation for fittings and meetings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Design, Product Development and Technical Design teams to ensure files, sketches and details are up to date.
- Prepare digital and physical materials for presentations to Sales, Account Management and internal teams.
Administrative & Team Support
- Assist with sample handling, scanning, formatting, filing and seasonal organizational tasks.
- Participate in design meetings and provide support on assigned design and development projects.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Fashion Design or related program.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, strong apparel-focused design work and proficiency in digital sketching/CADs.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required.
- Understanding of apparel construction, fabrics and basic design principles is a plus.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Ability to take direction, work collaboratively and meet deadlines.
- Positive attitude, eagerness to learn and a passion for design.
