What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Education Teacher position at Macon High School?
Macon R-1 High School (grades 9-12) is looking for a certified Physical Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will promote physical fitness, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students.
Extracurricular and coaching opportunities are also available.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education lessons aligned with state standards.
- Teach a variety of activities including team sports, individual fitness and cooperative games.
- Promote physical wellness, sportsmanship, and positive peer interactions.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure student safety and proper use of equipment and facilities.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs and abilities.
- Collaborate with staff to support school-wide initiatives and student success.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Participates in curriculum review and design.
- Creates and implements a classroom disciplinary plan.
- Creates lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction.
- Participates in building, grade level and/or subject area committees.
- Participates in professional development activities.
- Maintains accurate student records including attendance, grades, and discipline.
- Completes and submits forms and required reports in a timely manner.
- Reports suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination, and harassment as directed by Board policy.
- Prepares lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher.
- Attends established traditional school-sponsored activities (e.g., Back-to-School Night, Open House, programs, activities, and faculty meetings).
- Assumes other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
- Valid Missouri DESE issued Teaching Certificate
- Positive interpersonal relationship skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of digital resources, tools, and instructional applications

Terms of Employment:
Nine month contract. Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.
