The Macon R-1 School District is seeking an Elementary School (Grades K-5) Library Media Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Elementary Librarian develops and manages the school’s library media program to support the instructional goals of the school. This role promotes literacy, information literacy, and digital citizenship while collaborating with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction. The specialist fosters a love of reading and inquiry among elementary students.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Missouri DESE issued Teaching Certificate

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Library Program Management

Organize, maintain, and manage the school library collection (books, digital resources, media materials).

Select and acquire materials that support the curriculum and diverse student interests.

Catalog and process new materials using the library management system.

Maintain an inviting and functional library environment.
2. Instruction & Student Support

Teach students library skills such as book selection, research basics, and responsible information use.

Deliver lessons on digital literacy, media literacy, and research skills appropriate for elementary learners.

Encourage independent reading and support reading development.

Provide guidance to students on locating information and using library resources.
3. Collaboration with Teachers

Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate library resources into lesson plans and projects.

Support classroom research projects and inquiry-based learning.

Provide professional resources and reading materials for teachers.
4. Literacy Promotion

Organize reading initiatives such as book clubs, reading challenges, and literacy events.

Host author visits, book fairs, and storytelling programs when possible.

Promote diverse literature that reflects students’ backgrounds and experiences.
5. Technology & Media Integration

Support the use of educational technology and digital resources.

Teach students responsible digital citizenship.

Maintain and manage online databases, e-books, and digital media tools.
Terms of Employment:
Nine month contract. Salary and work year to be established by the Superintendent.
