The Macon R-1 School District is searching for a Special Education Director for the 2026-2027 school year.
The Director of Special Education provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of all special education programs and services within the district. This role ensures compliance with federal and state laws, supports student achievement, and promotes inclusive practices for students with disabilities.
Program Leadership & Oversight
- Direct and supervise all special education programs (PreK-12)
- Develop, implement, and evaluate special education services and initiatives
- Ensure alignment with district goals and student achievement outcomes
- Promote inclusive practices
Compliance & Legal Requirements
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and state regulations
- Oversee IEP development and implementation processes
- Monitor timelines, documentation, and procedural safeguards
- Respond to due process hearings, complaints, and audits
Staff Supervision & Development
- Supervise special education teachers, process coordinators, paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Recruit, hire, and evaluate special education staff
- Provide professional development and instructional leadership
- Support staff in implementing evidence-based practices
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage the special education budget
- Oversee allocation of federal, state, and local funds
- Ensure efficient use of staffing and resources
- Coordinate transportation, equipment, and specialized services
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field (preferred)
- Valid state certification in Special Education
- Administrative certification/licensure required
Terms of Employment
Eleven-month contract.
