Macon R-1 School District is accepting applications for a Maintenance Technician with employment starting the beginning of 2026.
The Maintenance Technician helps maintain and repair district buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure a safe, functional, and attractive learning environment for students, staff, and the community.
Key Responsibilities

Perform routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems

Complete work orders for building repairs, furniture/equipment assembly, and minor renovations

Assist with grounds maintenance, snow removal, and seasonal tasks

Inspect facilities to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs; report findings promptly

Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and district vehicles safely

Support custodial and operations staff with set-ups for school events and emergencies

Follow all OSHA, EPA, fire safety, and district safety procedures

Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used

Respond to after-hours emergencies as assigned

Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Prior experience in building, mechanical, or facilities maintenance preferred; trade certification a plus

Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems helpful

Ability to read and follow work orders, schematics, and safety instructions

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in varied weather conditions, and stand/walk for extended periods

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Team-oriented attitude, dependable, and willing to learn new skills
This position is a 12 month/260 day position.
