What are the responsibilities and job description for the Probation Officer Aide position at Macon-Bibb County Government?
The Probation Officer Aide position is responsible for providing support to the probation staff and administering the probation process to offenders in Bibb County.
- Monitors jail activity for incoming probationers and maintain roster of those in jail.
- Coordinates the calendar for revocation hearings and records the disposition.
- Attend court sessions as needed to perform intake.
- Assists Probation Officers during intake and may counsel adult offenders regarding the legal conditions of probation.
- Confers with family members for assistance with probation supervision and conditions.
- Informs offenders and guardians of the legal requirements of probation and intervention agreements, including office visits, restitution payments, and educational and employment stipulations.
- Processes new cases as received from court.
- Computes fines and fees on new cases as needed.
- Checks cases and monitors defendant’s release from jail for Probation Officers.
- Prepares various reports as needed.
- Serves as the POST (Peace Officers Standard Training) administrator for the agency and ensures compliance with established standards.
- Serves as the Title VI Administrator and ensures agency compliance with established standards
- Determines offender eligibility for discharge under the First Offender act or conditional discharge as ordered by the judge and prepares paperwork for said discharge.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the functions, operations and procedures of State courts.
- Knowledge of relevant state laws governing the State courts and civil procedure.
- Knowledge of legal terminology particularly that involved in State court matters.
- Knowledge of the system of courts in the State of Georgia, including appellate courts.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and simple accounting or bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and office equipment.
- Knowledge of English grammar and spelling. Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private or confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization and public.
- Ability to show good judgment, consistency, timeliness and respect in decision-making.
- Ability to achieve results on a timely basis.
