What are the responsibilities and job description for the CERT Officer position at Macon-Bibb County Government?
The CERT Officer is a highly specialized and trained correctional officer whose responsibility it is to uphold and maintain good order and security in the Bibb County Jail, to prevent attacks and injuries to staff, or other persons, and to prevent escapes. CERT Officers are responsible for responding to and resolving critical incidents and emergencies within the jail facility.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Maintain general order and security in the jail.
- Respond to high-risk situations involving potentially violent or uncooperative inmates.
- High-risk inmate transportation.
- Cell extractions of uncooperative or violent inmates.
- Conduct thorough searches of inmates and cells to locate contraband.
- Provide emergency medical assistance when injuries occur during critical incidents.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Required to possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving history.
- POST Law Enforcement Certified
- Department of Corrections Certified or POST Jailer Certified
- Ability to communicate effectively with inmates, colleagues, supervisors, and other personnel, even in high-stress situations.
- Ability to handle the emotional and psychological pressure of working in a high-stress environment.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, codes, laws, and regulations governing jail operations.
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and facility protocols related to inmate management, use of force, and emergency responses.
- Ability to meet with the public and discuss problems and complaints tactfully, courteously, and effectively.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances
- Ability to communicate and interact professionally with diverse audiences of inmates, corrections and law enforcement officials, and the public.
- Ability to assess situations, identify problems and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to make quick, sound judgements under pressure and in complex and evolving situations.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, which may include intense physical exertion and exposure to stressful and potentially dangerous environments.
