Job Title
Public Service Officer
Job Function
Provide safety and security of College properties, faculty, staff, students and visitors and provide service to the College Police department during the assigned tour of duty.
Job Responsibilities
- May function as the police department dispatcher.
- Utilize the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for dispatching of resources and recording information.
- Disseminating emergency information and Clery Act warnings via the communication system instructed by the College (eg. Informacast and or RAVE system).
- Will be expected to use Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as learning and using Datatel/Ellusian Colleague and Business Objects.
- Will be expected to know, learn and use other software packages utilized within the department, including LEIN, TIMS and CAD.
- Will be expected to learn and follow the Department’s General Orders, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with patrol duties
- Attend to locks and unlock requests
- Assist with motorist assist and or escorts
- Expected to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion, particularly when required to handling tasks relating to sensitive information of college employees and or students.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Chief of Police through the chain of command.
SUPERVISION GIVEN: May direct part-time departmental personnel.
Education
High School Graduate or equivalent.
Preliminary Qualifications
One-year experience in customer service Industry.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferably one-year continuous experience in Public Service performing police, fire, or security related duties in an educational environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have excellent communication skills and be poised and professional in high stress and critical situations. Must have ability to work well with people and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must have some familiarity with the basic purposes and philosophy of a college public safety operation. Must have a general knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to college public safety operations. Basic knowledge of computer systems, to include, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office Suite. Will be required to attend and successful complete the Certified Dispatcher program.
