Job Function
Provide peer-supported learning for students in specific high-risk courses by partnering with faculty to plan and facilitate weekly supplemental instruction sessions.
The Learning Center Supplemental Instruction Leader position is needed for the following courses:
ACCT 1080, ACCT 1090, ACCT 2180, BIOL 1000, BIOL 2710, CHEM 1050, CHEM 1060, CHEM 2260, ITCS 1010, ITCS 1140, MATH 1050, MATH 1415, PHYS 1180
Job Responsibilities
- Attend all class sessions online or in person, depending on SI course modality; take notes to demonstrate good note-taking skills.
- Communicate weekly with the faculty for the course(s) you are leading SI for.
- Maintain a resource page to communicate with students and provide materials for each SI course.
- Maintain constant and professional communication with the SI Coordinator(s) and the Director of Reading/Writing Studios and Learning Centers.
- Prepare for each SI session, (includes, handouts, PowerPoints, etc).
- Submit a lesson plan to the Coordinator(s) and faculty member for each SI session.

Facilitate group learning and participation in weekly study sessions:
- Demonstrate and share effective note-taking skills and study strategies
- Model successful learning processes
- Clarify course content
- Provide reviews and testing samples (NOT providing answers)
- Maintain familiarity with course outcomes in SI course and align tutoring approaches with these outcomes.
- Keep records, including taking attendance and reporting on session topics/content.
- Participate in regular observation, review, and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- High School graduate or GED equivalent. Must have completed subject course(s) for tutoring with grade of 3.0 or higher (transcript required)
- Must be a current student or one who recently attended Macomb Community College and completed the subject course(s) within the past 2 years.
- Must submit a letter of recommendation from a faculty member that speaks to content knowledge and rapport and responsiveness to other learners.
Salary : $16 - $17
