Job Description
MACOM is looking for an AI/ML Development Senior Engineer who will play a critical role in the design, development, and deployment of scalable and robust AI/ML solutions within MACOM. You will work with subject matter experts throughout the company to identify opportunities for AI implemented productivity improvement. You will develop custom AI agents and agentic workflows, custom model development and fine tuning, and AI tool integrations to solve bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and enable previously undiscovered opportunities.
This role requires demonstrated expertise and experience in AI engineering and deployed solutions. We are looking for someone with the ability to apply their expertise to solve real - world challenges in semiconductor fabrication, RF and mixed signal circuit design, manufacturing operations, and general front and back-office operations. This is an onsite position working out of MACOM’s office located in either Lowell, MA, Durham, NC or Morgan Hill, CA. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain AI platform capabilities that enable scalable, secure, and reusable AI solutions across the enterprise.
- Design and deploy agentic AI solutions and workflows that incorporate reasoning, planning, and execution to solve discrete problems in impactful ways.
- Develop large-scale ML model training and fine-tuning pipelines in both on-prem and cloud-based infrastructures.
- Evaluate available models to assess capability and cost tradeoffs for various applications.
- Contribute to AI use and development standards, including safety, security and compliance.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts throughout the company to define potential AI solutions and applications in various domains.
- Mentor engineers and non-technical staff, and promote best practices in AI use, agentic systems, and generative AI development.
- Drive innovation and evaluate emerging AI technologies for their potential value to the company.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in AI/ML engineering, including recent, demonstrated expertise in Generative AI, Agentic AI, and large-scale model training.
- Expert programming skills in Python and AI/ML frameworks (Pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, etc.).
- Expertise in building agentic AI systems and orchestration frameworks with demonstrated success deploying solutions in traditional engineering and manufacturing environments.
- Strong working knowledge of model providers and development ecosystems (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, Sagemaker, Hugging Face, etc.) with a focus on cloud-based architectures.
- Experience creating APIs, reusable components, agents and agent orchestrators for AI solutions.
- Solid understanding of scalability, cost, and performance optimization for AI workloads.
- Ability to define and implement standards for AI development, deployment, and governance.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work across software development, hardware and semiconductor engineering, operations and business teams.
- Strong background in distributed systems and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), including security and compliance considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical strategy, mentor engineers, and establish best practices for AI development and governance.
