Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary

At MPS the Manufacturing & Production Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical components, assemblies, and production processes to support efficient manufacturing operations.

Job Duties

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs following GD&T and industry standards.
• Conduct engineering calculations (stress, tolerance stack-up, thermal, materials).
• Evaluate design concepts for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing teams for troubleshooting issues.
• Assist with root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design or process failures.
• Coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and revisions.
• Assist with prototyping, pilot builds, and validation testing.
• Conduct FMEA (DFMEA/PFMEA) and risk assessments.
• Ensure smooth transition from prototype to mass production.
• Create concepts, performance and production criteria
• Identify and select materials needed for production
• Create parts lists
• Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately
• Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.)
• Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Experience and Education

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in mechanical design, production engineering, or manufacturing.
• Performs work under general supervision
• Handle moderately complex issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher-level staff
• Possess solid working knowledge of subject matter

Salary Range: $75k - $85k
