What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Mechanical Engineer position at Mackinnon Bruce International?
Under limited supervision, you will lead and execute engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule and within budget.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead engineering design and project execution activities for mining and material handling projects.
- Complete engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Design, evaluate and optimize conveyor and bulk material handling systems, including belts, idlers, pulleys, drives, take-ups, crushers, feeders and chutes.
- Perform conveyor sizing, capacity, throughput and performance analysis.
- Model bulk material flow and evaluate system performance using appropriate engineering software.
- Review vendor proposals, equipment selections and engineering designs for compliance with company standards, codes and regulations.
- Develop engineering deliverables including PIDs, PFDs, equipment datasheets, BOMs and Engineering Work Packages (EWPs).
- Develop and contribute to project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans and cost estimates.
- Participate in multidisciplinary project meetings and coordinate engineering solutions across project teams.
- Support construction and commissioning activities and help resolve technical issues.
- Conduct design reviews and maintain accurate engineering records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the engineering and project teams.
- Perform other duties as required.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with at least 7 years of engineering experience, including lead or supervisory experience;
- OR
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with at least 5 years of engineering experience, including lead or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices and standards.
- Experience managing complex engineering projects.
- Ability to analyze technically complex information and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety, engineering hazards and applicable regulations.
