What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Scrub Technician position at Mackinac Straits Health System?
Mackinac Straits Health System, located right across from the mighty Mackinac Bridge, is recruiting for Certified Scrub Technicians to join our surgical team.
Summary: This position ensures the delivery of necessary hospital equipment; the stocking and delivery of supplies and delivery of supplies to surgical services; the pick-up of soiled equipment, and utensils from patient care areas; the decontamination of these items; the assembly, wrapping and sterilization of OR instruments and sets for reuse. Additionally, requires data entry into a computer any updates for inventory control, for departmental and unit usage tracking, and quality assurance. Performs all duties in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities Included:
* Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures.
* Verifies items on pick lists.
* Assures all equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready for procedure.
* Retrieves and decontaminates surgical instruments and patient care equipment
* Accountable for supplies to ensure accurate patient billing.
* Maintains accurate account of all medications, sponges, instruments, and sharps on sterile field per policy.
* Maintains sterile environments. Monitors sterile field and reports a break in technique.
* Demonstrates proper use of equipment as well as cleaning and sterilizing. Compiles the supplies and instrumentation for surgical cases.
* Cross training preferred to perform dual role surgical technologist and sterile processing.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
* One of the following required:
a) Armed Services certified training. b) Completion of an accredited Surgery Technology Program - Certification required within 18 months on hire c) Registered Central Sterile Technician Certification. Technician certification required within 18 months of hire. Previous OR experience preferred.
* Basic Life Support (BLS required).
* Manual dexterity and mechanical skills needed for instrument use.
* Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Must be organized and able to balance multiple tasks on a daily basis.
* Exemplary attendance record required.
* Must be flexible.
The Mackinac Straits Health System (MSHS) serves the Straits of Mackinac region with local access to high quality health care, including state of the art equipment. MSHS includes a 15-bed critical access hospital in St. Ignace which houses a rural health clinic (St. Ignace Medical Clinic), Emergency Room, Fast Care (Walk-in) Clinic, outpatient surgery center, six-bed infusion center, and a 48-bed long-term care facility (Evergreen Living Center). The Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Health Clinic is also part of our St. Ignace Campus. Other outpatient services featured at the St. Ignace Campus include radiology, cardiac rehab, and physical therapy, along with a retail pharmacy. Other locations include Bois Blanc Island Medical Center, Mackinaw City Medical Clinic, Mackinaw City Specialty Clinic, Mackinac Island Medical Center, and the Rivertown Medical Clinic in Cheboygan.
