Position Summary
Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Designer to produce, develop, and manage technical drawings and assemblies for a variety of engineering projects. In this role, you will create accurate general arrangements, assembly, and part drawings, develop and maintain bills of materials, and ensure designs meet customer standards and engineering requirements. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with engineers, Detailers, Checkers, and project teams to translate concepts into precise, build-ready solutions, while making informed decisions about component selection and fabrication methods. From field verification to final documentation, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, compliant, and efficient engineered solutions.

What you'll do:
Produce general arrangement, assembly, and detailed part drawings that meet customer standards, including required fits, tolerances, fasteners, and finishes.
Develop, maintain, and verify accurate bills of materials for all projects.
Use CAD and related software to create, update, and organize technical drawings and project information.
Field-verify existing conditions when needed to support accurate design and documentation.
Understand project requirements, constraints, and goals to ensure designs align with customer expectations and engineering standards.
Determine component sizes, fits, and other engineering details needed for successful fabrication and assembly.
Decide which components should be purchased and which should be custom-designed for manufacture.
Review, analyze, and inspect designs and materials to identify issues, ensure compliance, and resolve problems.
Work closely with Detailers and Checkers, providing oversight, coordination, and technical guidance as needed.
Estimate materials, time, and resources required for design and manufacturing activities.
Document, record, and maintain technical information throughout the project lifecycle.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, customers, and external partners
Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and contribute to a collaborative, solutions-focused work environment.
Apply creative thinking to improve designs, workflows, and engineering outcomes.
What we are looking for:
- Solid knowledge of design principles, drafting techniques, and producing accurate technical drawings and 3D models.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, mechanical systems, and how designs translate into real-world manufacturing.
Proficiency in AutoCAD required; experience with 3D CAD software such as Inventor or SolidWorks is highly desirable.
Comfortable working with computers, electronics, and CAD-related software tools.
Understanding of production processes, materials, and basic quality control principles.
Clear communication skills and strong command of written English.
Education and Experience
- Technical education or vocational training in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Detailer or in a similar drafting/design role.
- Strong skills in geometry, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and material/component selection.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, apply drafting standards, and use engineering reference materials effectively.
