Full Time Instructor

The Machinists Institute, a 501c3 nonprofit was created by the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers District 751 to fill a vital role for training and apprenticeship programs for the community. MI provides world class training to current and future aerospace, automotive and manufacturing workers. The Institute focuses on providing living-wage career opportunities through education and training across the state.

The Full time instructors at MI prepare and deliver quality instruction, provide student advising in regards to instructional content and support students learning objectives. They forge strong relationships with students and prepare and guide them to successfully advance their careers through apprenticeship training or other related instruction in a classroom and lab setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and guidance to students, contracted instructors, and industry partners to ensure training and apprenticeship program initiatives are achieved
• Actively participate in program planning and curriculum development across all pre- apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship programs
• Ensure all instructional equipment, supplies, and materials, to include audiovisual equipment, lab equipment, is in proper working condition and instructional materials/aids, e.g., student handouts, etc. are available before class begins
• Deliver hands on lab instruction in a manufacturing or industrial setting 
• Appropriately evaluate and maintain records of student progress, including attendance, documentation and grading as necessary in related systems
• Serve as subject matter expert for programs to be taught in Puget Sound market
• Communicate with appropriate personnel prior to, during, and upon completion of courses to discuss essential course information, ongoing needs and evaluations of the course
• Make lesson plans that describe how information will be presented to students
• Provide orientation and ongoing technical support to assist with any other issues that arise that affect student success in their program.
• Participate in instructor training activities, including but not limited to, diversity, facilities, procedures, and safety

Minimum Qualifications:

• Have strengths in course planning, project implementation and coordination of stakeholders to meet class and program goals
• Have proven experience in the successful operation and demonstration of a variety of industrial lab equipment and training methods
• Have strong and demonstrated interpersonal communication skills
• Be versed in machining or industrial equipment
• Have experience in providing training/orientation in one-on-one, online and group formats.
• Be able to present program benefits and communicate when needed to employers, labor organizations, industry associations, workforce stakeholders and government agencies
• Understand outreach opportunities within the community and have experience participating in events that promote educational programs
• Be available for travel when required to provide training, support or continuing education initiatives
