Evening Shift (Mon. - Fri. | 3pm-11:30pm)
Position: Hourly Non-Exempt
Machine Time, Inc is a custom CNC machining business founded in 2016 by Master Machinist and Artisan, Craig Jackson. Craig started working in the family machine shop when he was 12 years old and has developed his skills as a machinist, a fabricator, and an engineer for over 4 decades. A lifelong entrepreneur, Craig’s first major success was in 2008 when he built a company called Easy Wood Tools. Within a few years the Easy Wood Tools brand grew exponentially, showcasing Craig’s ability to invent novel technology and teach just about anyone the techniques of wood-turning.
Craig founded Machine Time in 2016 to be the machining company he could never find. Specializing in producing high-quality, tight-tolerance custom parts, Machine Time has developed a reputation for being able to deliver exceptionally challenging parts at specification, the first time. The Role
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week with occasional overtime on weekdays and/or weekends at Machine Time’s manufacturing facility located in Nicholasville, KY. QC Technicians report to the Quality Manager while engaging closely with the CNC Machinists and Operations Manager. The role will be responsible for full inspection and measurement of tight tolerance CNC machined parts, primarily for customers in the aerospace industry. Daily tasks include programming, setup, troubleshooting, and operation of both manual and DCC Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and verifying that parts conform to drawings, processes and procedures (onsite training is provided). This person will work alongside fellow team members to implement the company-wide initiatives of standardization and growth. This position serves to support the Mission and Vision of Machine Time, Inc.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess a willingness and ability to learn, read, follow and interpret drawings, processes and procedures. Applicants must possess intermediate math and computer skills, ability to communicate effectively with others, and engage in process improvements. Appropriate use of all inspection equipment and sample features to verify conformance is required. The primary responsibilities for the Quality Control Technician are listed below.
Responsibilities
- Quality Control of prototype and production-volume CNC machined parts
- Perform full inspection tasks of manufactured parts to print/model
- Record measurements and identify non-conformances, communicating effectively to both Quality Manager, Operations Manager, and Machinists
- Program, operate, and troubleshoot Coordinate Measuring Machines (both manual and DCC formats). Onsite training can be provided
- Utilize digital ERP software to track NCRs, CAPAs, Rework, and other quality control data
- Performs maintenance and calibration on measuring tools as required
- Reads blueprints, sketches, and follows verbal and written instructions
- Keeps QC Lab workplace clean and organized, sweeping floors, cleaning equipment and machines as necessary
- Maintain compliance to all safety, regulatory, and company policies and procedures (OSHA/ITAR/AS9100), informing management of potential risks immediately
- Possess a mindset of Safe Excellence by taking action in addressing quality and people safety concerns as necessary
- Support with all other production activities as needed for the business

Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Experience programming and operating a CMM for part inspections (using PC/DMIS software is a plus)
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- CAD/CAM Knowledge and experience with measuring tools and equipment
- Experience with 3D modeling and drawings
- Proficient with Office 365 products
- Work experience with shop math proficiency, computer literacy, and strong mechanical aptitude is appreciated; basic math skills required
- Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be present and on-site to perform job duties
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of CNC machining, ITAR, and/or AS9100
- Proficient with Windows 10(PRO)
- LEAN/TPM manufacturing experience
- Experience working with startups or scale up of small businesses
Skill Level Differentiators
Training and development opportunities exist to advance across various levels of manufacturing quality experience. Machine Time defines each tiered skill level of the QC Technician role as follows:
Level I QC Technician
- At least 6 months experience working in a QC or manufacturing-related function
- Shop math proficiency and ability to analyze data; basic math skills required
- Computer literacy and strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience with measuring tools and equipment to perform manual inspections
- Experience with CAD and 3D modeling software
- Able to interpreting part drawings and design prints with basic dimensions
- Can perform some quality control inspection of manufactured parts against the print/model with guidance
- Can read and follow standards and work instructions to perform tasks
- Basic familiarity with GD&T
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing environment
Level II QC Technician
- All Level I QC Technician competencies, plus…
- Minimum 1 year working experience as Level I QC Tech at Machine Time, or equivalent external working experience
- Can perform full quality control inspection of manufactured parts against the print/model independently without guidance and with minimal errors
- Correctly records inspection measurements and identifies non-conformances, communicating effectively to QC Manager, QC Technicians, Operations Manager, and Machinists
- Able to program, operate, and troubleshoot Coordinate Measuring Machines (both manual and DCC formats) for part inspections without guidance
- Performs maintenance and calibration on measuring tools as required
- Intuitively reads and understands blueprints, sketches, models, and job Travelers and is able to follow their verbal and written instructions while identifying and communicating any potential inconsistencies or errors
- Understands machine coordinate kinematics and utilizes GD&T tolerancing to inspect as well as effectively communicate issues to the machinist to help resolve any non-conformances
- Fully competent in use of ERP software to track QC task times according to the job Traveler, as well as to manage QC documentation and performance tracking
- Basic CAM and CNC machining knowledge
- Experience working and complying with certified quality regulations such as ISO9001, ISO13485, AS9100, or other
Level III QC Technician
- All Level II QC Technician competencies, plus…
- Minimum 2 year working experience as Level II QC Tech at Machine Time, or equivalent external working experience
- Develops, reviews, and writes work instructions to standardize best practices for quality control activities and lab operations
- Takes the lead on implementing new systems and processes which improve quality or efficiency of QC Lab operations
- Can facilitate root cause problem solving using FTA, Fishbone, or other LEAN/TPM methodologies
- Can train others on all QMS systems, equipment, work instructions, and protocol maintained by QC Lab operations
- Ability to analyze and coach others on best practices for all inspection processes
- Experience working and complying specifically with ITAR and AS9100 regulations
- Working experience with CAM and CNC machining
