Welder/Fitter

Position Summary

Machine Tech Services is seeking an experienced Fitter/Welder to join our fabrication team in Broussard, Louisiana. This position is responsible for fitting, fabricating, and welding custom components and assemblies used in the oil & gas, industrial, and manufacturing industries. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of producing high-quality work from blueprints and fabrication drawings.

Essential Responsibilities

• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols.
• Fit and assemble structural steel, piping, and custom-machined components prior to welding.
• Perform MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and Stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum as required.
• Verify dimensions and maintain proper tolerances throughout fabrication.
• Operate fabrication equipment including band saws, ironworkers, grinders, drill presses, plasma cutters, and oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
• Perform tack welding and final welding to applicable company and customer specifications.
• Inspect completed welds for quality, accuracy, and workmanship.
• Work closely with machinists, engineers, and supervisors to complete projects on schedule.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE.
• Assist with shop maintenance and other fabrication duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of fitting and welding experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Proficient in layout, measuring, and fitting techniques.
• Experience with MIG, TIG, Flux-Core, and Stick welding.
• Ability to use precision measuring tools including tape measures, squares, calipers, and levels.
• Experience operating common fabrication equipment and overhead cranes is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Welding certifications (AWS or equivalent) are a plus but not required.

Preferred Experience

• Oilfield equipment fabrication
• Pressure-containing components
• Stainless steel and aluminum fabrication
• API and AWS quality standards

Physical Requirements

• Stand, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
• Lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Work in a shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and welding fumes while using appropriate PPE.
