Machine Tech Services is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join our growing team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes, mills, drill presses, and other conventional machine tools to manufacture and repair precision components. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, can work independently from drawings or samples, and maintains a strong commitment to quality and safety.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other manual machining equipment
- Machine shafts, sleeves, bushings, housings, flanges, and custom components to customer specifications
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools
- Select tooling, speeds, and feeds appropriate for different materials
- Repair worn or damaged industrial equipment components
- Hold tight tolerances and maintain high-quality workmanship
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet specifications
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Assist with fabrication and shop projects as needed
- Communicate with supervisors regarding job progress and material needs
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of manual machining experience preferred
- Strong experience operating manual engine lathes and vertical mills
- Ability to machine carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, plastics, and specialty alloys
- Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, and precision measurements
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with repair machining
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience working in industrial or oilfield environments
- Forklift and overhead crane experience
- Basic CNC knowledge is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand for extended periods
- Bend, climb, kneel, and work in industrial environments
- Safely operate shop equipment and overhead lifting devices
