Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Controls and Automation Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with industrial automation systems, including PLC programming, HMI development, and troubleshooting of automated equipment. Experience with Fanuc robot programming is a strong plus. This role will work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, and field technicians to deliver reliable automation solutions to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, WAGO, or similar).
- Develop and modify HMI/SCADA interfaces for machine operation and diagnostics.
- Commission automation equipment in-house and at customer sites, ensuring smooth system startup and handoff.
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis of automation systems (electrical, software, and mechanical integration).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new machine builds, upgrades, and retrofits.
- Create and maintain project documentation, including wiring diagrams, logic flow, and user manuals.
- Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards in all automation work.
- Bonus: Program, test, and integrate Fanuc robots for material handling, machine tending, or assembly applications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 8 years of experience with PLC programming and industrial automation.
- Strong knowledge of ladder logic, function block, or structured text programming.
- Familiarity with control panel design, wiring, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel for equipment installation and support (up to 40%).
- Bonus: Hands-on experience with Fanuc robot programming (TP, Karel, iRVision).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with motion control, servo drives, and VFDs.
- Experience with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus, etc.).
- Knowledge of safety PLCs, risk assessments, and machine safety standards.
- Experience integrating vision systems or other smart sensors.
