About the Opportunity
We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of an established mid-market energy company seeking an operationally sharp and strategically minded Director of Operations to oversee and optimize the company’s day-to-day functions. This is a critical leadership role for a seasoned operations professional who thrives in complex, fast-moving environments and can translate strategic priorities into disciplined, scalable execution.
What You’ll Do
Operational Leadership
- Oversee and continuously improve end-to-end operational processes across business units, ensuring efficiency, quality, and scalability
- Serve as the operational backbone of the organization, bridging executive strategy with ground-level execution
- Develop and enforce operational policies, procedures, and standards across the company
- Provide regular operational performance reporting to the CEO and executive team
Process Optimization & Scalability
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement systems, tools, and workflows to drive efficiency
- Lead process improvement initiatives using data-driven methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent)
- Build scalable infrastructure to support the company’s continued revenue and headcount growth
- Oversee technology and systems adoption that support operational excellence (ERP, project management, SCADA, or energy-specific platforms)
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner closely with Finance, Sales, HR, and project delivery teams to ensure operational alignment with business goals
- Coordinate across departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget
- Act as a key escalation point for operational issues requiring executive-level resolution
Vendor & Supply Chain Management
- Manage key vendor relationships, contractor networks, and supply chain partners relevant to energy operations
- Negotiate and oversee service agreements, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality standards
- Monitor supplier performance and develop contingency plans to mitigate operational risk
Team Leadership & Culture
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing operations team in a fully remote environment
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration
- Define clear KPIs and performance expectations for operational staff and direct reports
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure operational activities comply with relevant energy sector regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements
- Identify operational risks and develop mitigation frameworks and business continuity plans
- Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams on regulatory reporting and operational risk assessments
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- 20 years of progressive operations experience, with at least 10 years in a Director-level or senior leadership role
- Proven experience in the energy sector (utilities, renewable energy, oil & gas, energy services, or adjacent industries)
- Demonstrated track record of improving operational efficiency and scaling business operations
- Strong project management skills with experience overseeing multi-functional initiatives
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate data into operational decisions
- Experience managing distributed or fully remote teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities
Preferred:
- Experience in a mid-market or PE-backed energy company undergoing growth or transformation
- Familiarity with energy transition operations (renewables, storage, distributed energy resources)
- PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent operational certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or related field; MBA preferred
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $155,000 – $185,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience
