Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Machinist role based in Valparaiso, IN. The Machinist will set up and operate manual and/or CNC machines to produce parts according to engineering drawings, work orders, and quality standards. Daily responsibilities include reading blueprints, selecting appropriate tooling and materials, performing machine set-ups, making adjustments during production, and inspecting parts with precision measuring instruments. The role also involves maintaining equipment, documenting work performed, following safety and housekeeping procedures, and collaborating with supervisors, engineers, and team members to resolve machining issues and improve processes.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience setting up and operating manual and/or CNC machine tools in a production or job-shop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and standard shop documentation.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) and basic shop math for dimensional checks.
- Understanding of machining processes, materials, cutting speeds/feeds, and safe operation of shop equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, quality mindset, and ability to troubleshoot and correct machining issues during production.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional shop and engineering teams.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift materials as required, and follow all safety and housekeeping standards.
- Previous machinist or manufacturing experience is preferred; vocational training, apprenticeship, or relevant technical coursework is a plus.
