About the Mel King Institute

The Mel King Institute for Community Building is a program of MACDC that fosters vibrant and thriving Massachusetts communities by advancing the skills, knowledge and leadership ability of professional practitioners and volunteer leaders in the community development field. We leverage collaborative professional and educational partnerships that increase access, encourage innovation, and build capacity in the community development field.


Description

The Program and Communications Coordinator reports to the MKI Director and manages monthly trainings, outreach, and logistics. The Coordinator serves as a liaison to the MKI network of students and program partners, leads and staffs the professional education program—including workshops and multi day series—and provides communication support to MKI programs such as the Mentoring and Public Housing Training Program.


Responsibilities include:

Coordination

  • Assisting MKI staff and instructors in planning, coordinating, and implementing training sessions and Program activities
  • Assisting in the production of Community Leadership Academy program materials as needed, and
  • Supporting registration process and managing online store,
  • Reconciling training finances by serving as a liaison to MACDC’s accountant.


Communications

  • Marketing MKI programs and training series through weekly emails and social media (LinkedIn)
  • Producing newsletters with a featured spotlight or program testimonial, and
  • Maintaining our website and social media content and analytics.


Programming

  • MKI Annual Breakfast – assist in the planning and implementation of the annual fundraising event
  • with MACDC staff, assist in the implementation of organization-wide events, including the MACDC Summit (September 30, 2026) and other major MACDC events.


Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, or strong history in relevant work experience, or background in nonprofit or community development,
  • Experience in planning, coordinating activities and events in person and online,
  • Familiarity with LinkedIn
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates leadership potential and takes initiative
  • Able to work well independently and in teams, and
  • Able to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • Required Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with Salesforce, Zoom, Canva, or email marketing software is a plus.

  • Experience coordinating a nationally recognized capacity building program,
  • Access to MACDC’s Peer groups, Committees and coalition meetings addressing present issues in the field,
  • Opportunity to build knowledge by attending one national Community Development Conference or Training annually, and
  • Opportunity to visit CDCs across the state to learn about their work and deepen your knowledge of the field.


Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, salaried position with a salary range of $52,000–$60,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. MACDC also offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package which includes health insurance (80% paid by MACDC), dental, group life and disability, 403b plan with $400 monthly employer contribution, and significant paid time off. MACDC highly values professional development and will support attendance at relevant conferences and trainings. MACDC is currently operating as a hybrid organization with a minimum of two days in-office, with all staff in the office on Tuesdays.
