About the job
The Food Pantry Manager is responsible for managing the operations of MACAA’s Food Pantry in Fluvanna County. Major responsibilities of this role include onsite supervision of daily operations, managing volunteers, coordinating food deliveries and pickups from suppliers, adhering to all health and safety regulations, and overseeing inventory management—resulting in a highly effective food pantry that provides essential nutrition services for the Fluvanna community. The Pantry Manager communicates with community partners and donors, and they strive to strengthen relationships and ensure effective food distribution to the community through best practices and innovative strategies.
Job responsibilities
- Manage volunteer recruitment, orientation, and ongoing training.
- Coordinate volunteer shift scheduling. Provide clear directions to volunteers during shifts to ensure efficient, safe, and positive operations.
- Execute the intake process for new clients, entering eligibility information and other required household information into data tracking platforms. Update household information and required forms for clients annually and as needed.
- Ensure food inventory is taken regularly and according to established procedures.
- Place food and supply orders according to established procedures and schedule. Ensure pantry shelves, fridges, and freezers remain well stocked using best practices.
- Ensure regular maintenance, inspection, and registration of pantry vehicles. Resolve any maintenance or safety concerns promptly and thoroughly. Submit gas receipts in a timely manner.
- Check and respond to general pantry inquiries including voicemails and emails.
- Provide guests with referrals or information about additional services offered by MACAA.
- Assist in promoting pantry events and outreach activities. Be a valuable resource to the community by ensuring that information on how to access our services is widely available.
- Build, maintain, and enhance partnerships with other local organizations and agencies.
- Complete data reports for submission to the EO impact area, senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and local, state, and federal partners and grantmaking agencies.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- 2 years of experience in food or customer service
- Proven skills in communication and collaboration
- Demonstrated technological skills and capacity to learn new digital systems
- Ability to safely operate a van or small box truck.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Reliable, independent transportation to get to work
- Ability to lift 30-50 pounds and move large boxes of food/supplies
