About the Central Area Collaborative : The Central Area Collaborative (CAC) is a Black-led organization dedicated to empowering the community of Seattle’s Central District through strategic initiatives that promote economic growth, cultural preservation, and community development. The CAC focuses on supporting local businesses, fostering a vibrant cultural environment, and ensuring that the Central District remains a thriving and inclusive community for all its residents.
Position Summary : The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of CAC and is responsible for the organization's overall strategic, operational, and financial management. The ED will lead efforts to strengthen CAC's presence in the community, develop diverse funding streams, and ensure the organization's long-term sustainability. This role requires a visionary leader deeply committed to economic development, cultural preservation, and collaborative partnerships. The organization will shift from a working board, where board members are actively involved in the day-to-day operations, to a Governance Board, where board members focus on strategic planning and oversight during this process.
Priorities for the next 18 to 24 months :
- Strategic Leadership :
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan that aligns with CAC's mission and addresses community needs.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to transition to a governance board model, clarifying roles and responsibilities.
- Stay informed about policies and legislation affecting the Central District, advocating for initiatives that benefit the community.
- Fund Development and Financial Management :
- Diversify funding sources by securing grants, cultivating donor relationships, and exploring alternative revenue streams beyond city funding.
- Ensure grants support program development so outcomes are met and reported as defined by grant contracts.
- Manage financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, and ensuring fiscal responsibility by hiring and managing staff as necessary.
- Lead fundraising initiatives and create conditions for fundraising success, including developing materials and training staff and board members.
- Community Engagement and Collaboration :
- To promote cohesive community development foster authentic relationships with local organizations, businesses, residents, and government entities.
- Enhance CAC's visibility and relevance as an advocate, connector, and supporter of small businesses in the Central District.
- Address challenges like gentrification, displacement, and cultural preservation through inclusive and collaborative initiatives.
- Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to amplify CAC's initiatives and successes.
- Program Development and Management :
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that support community needs, including business assistance, economic development, public safety, and promoting a strong business district.
- Ensure programs are effectively managed, with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Explore opportunities for CAC to engage in neighborhood planning, business technical assistance, and commercial revitalization projects.
- Organizational Development :
- Transition from contracted staff to full-time employees, establishing a clear organizational structure.
- Recruit and retain diverse talent, including staff, board members, and volunteers.
- Promote a culture of trust, open communication, and accountability within the organization.
- Advocate for equitable resource allocation and support from city officials and other stakeholders.
Qualifications :
Compensation : In the first year, the Executive Director is contracted at $80,000, working 30 hours a week.
The prospective Executive Director's goal is to identify and secure new revenue sources to transition the position to a full-time, permanent role with a starting salary of $100,00.00, plus limited benefits.
Working Conditions and Location : The individual selected for this position must reside in the Seattle area. While the Executive Director may work from their home office, they must dedicate 8 to 10 hours per week to in-person meetings and events and actively engage with community partners, funders, and members.
