Hourly rate: $20-$21/hour
Schedule: Full-time (35 hours/week), Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

About MAC, Inc.
MAC, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable MAP & SHIP Counselor to assist older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and Medicare beneficiaries in accessing vital services and benefits. This position provides information, assistance, options counseling, Medicare counseling, advocacy, and referrals to help individuals make informed decisions regarding healthcare coverage, long-term services and supports, and community resources.

Position Summary
Responsibilities
Information, Assistance & Options Counseling
- Provide information about community resources, public benefits, and long-term services and supports.
- Conduct person-centered options counseling to help consumers make informed choices.
- Assist with applications, forms, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with the Maryland Department of Health and partner agencies on Level I Assessment screenings and related activities.
- Follow up with consumers to ensure services were received and needs were addressed.

Medicare & Health Insurance Counseling
- Educate Medicare beneficiaries regarding Medicare, Medicare Advantage Plans, Part D Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare Supplement Plans, Medicare Savings Programs, and Buy-In Programs.
- Assist consumers with understanding benefits, filing claims, appeals, and resolving insurance concerns.
- Inform beneficiaries of their rights and responsibilities.
- Research and communicate updates related to healthcare benefits, legislation, and fraud prevention.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate client records and case documentation.
- Enter and manage data in Apricot, STARS, and other required systems.
- Complete reports and program documentation within established deadlines.
- Participate in required program accountability activities, including FFP random time studies.
Outreach & Community Education
- Represent agency programs and services within the community.
- Assist with presentations, workshops, outreach events, and educational activities.
- Distribute resource materials and educational information.
- Participate in required local, state, and federal trainings
Administrative Support
- Provide occasional reception coverage and customer service support.
- Assist with departmental projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Gerontology, Public Health, or a related field required
Experience
- Two (2) years of experience in human services, healthcare, social services, aging services, public benefits, or a related field preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Medicare, public benefits, long-term services and supports, and community resources preferred.
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain complex policies and program requirements clearly.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certifications & Training
- Must obtain Inform USA Certification within two years of employment if required by program funding.
- Must successfully complete required MAP, SHIP, person-centered counseling, and other program training requirements.
Working Conditions
- Professional office environment with frequent interaction with clients, caregivers, community partners, and staff.
- Local travel required for assessments, outreach events, presentations, meetings, and trainings.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
