What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Assistant Softball Coach position at Mabton School District?
Minimum Qualifications:
- 18 Years or older
- High School Graduate (or GED)
- Valid CPR/1st Aid Card
- Clearance through fingerprinting background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coaching Experience Preferred
- Softball Coaching Experience Preferred
Description of Responsibilities:
- Shall be committed to the academic success of athletes in word and deed
- Shall be committed to the safety and well-being of the athletes in his/her charge, teaching and developing positive character traits and sportsmanship
- Assist in the development of the athletic program as directed by the head coach
- Assume those duties and responsibilities as assigned by head coach
- Assist the head coach in all organizational matters
- Assist the head coach in all supervisory duties and/or supervise the team assigned to him/her including locker rooms, transportation, & facilities.
- Accompany and direct all games at home or away for his/her assigned team
- Assume the responsibilities of the head coach in his/her absence
- Assist in the upkeep and inventory of equipment
- Shall plan (in written form), organize, direct, and supervise all practice sessions. Teach (and document such teaching) safety procedures and proper playing techniques for the sports activity. Include sportsmanship, character development, and service in practice planning. Keep record of all practice sessions and submit copies of practice plans to the athletic director.
- Shall determine the degree of fitness of each participant and readiness for competition
- Shall oversee the safety conditions of the facility or playing area.
- Shall practice every legal practice day throughout the season
- Shall keep practices to an acceptable length (not to exceed 2.5 hrs HS or 2 hrs JH)
- Shall create team rules, expectations, & procedures, through the head coach, to communicate with athletes, parents, & administration as to the team requirements.
- Recommend disciplinary action as outlined in team rules/expectations through the head coach.
- Adhere to all expectations, regulations, & policies of the school district
- Keep abreast of new ideas and techniques related to his/her sport
- Shall communicate problems related to any team to the head coach
- Shall take responsibility for care and use of facilities and equipment
- Shall be versed in the rules of the WIAA, League, & School district as outlined in the WIAA handbook, Online rules clinics, League SOP’s, MSD Coaches Handbook, and MSD Policies.
- Shall maintain criteria of the WIAA coaches standards
- Shall conduct themselves with the utmost of professionalism at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and twisting will vary depending on the age of students and classroom
assignments. Physical capabilities also require lifting and carrying (no more than 50 lbs.) pushing and/or pulling,
stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires
approximately 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
