Job Summary 


The School-Based Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavior-analytic services and behavioral support to students in a school setting under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or other qualified clinical supervisor. The RBT implements behavior intervention plans, supports academic and social success, collects data on student performance and behavior, and collaborates with teachers, school staff, and families to promote positive student outcomes. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill-acquisition programs designed by the supervising BCBA. 
  • Provide one-to-one or small-group behavioral support to students in classroom, cafeteria, playground, and other school environments. 
  • Collect accurate data on student behavior, academic engagement, social skills, and progress toward goals. 
  • Support students with transitions, classroom routines, communication, self-regulation, and adaptive behavior. 
  • Use reinforcement, prompting, modeling, and other ABA strategies as directed by the supervising BCBA. 
  • Assist in reducing interfering behaviors that impact learning and school participation. 
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors, and administrators to support student success. 
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation, including session notes and behavior data. 
  • Participate in team meetings, staff training, and supervision sessions. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with school policy and applicable privacy laws. 

 

School-Based Responsibilities 

  • Provide support in accordance with student IEPs, behavior plans, and classroom expectations, as applicable. 
  • Help students access instruction in the least restrictive environment. 
  • Promote positive behavior and safe participation in instructional and non-instructional settings. 
  • Assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation using approved school and employer protocols. 
  • Communicate effectively with teachers and school staff regarding student progress and behavioral concerns. 
  • Follow all district, school, and campus safety procedures. 


Minimum Qualifications 

  • Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential in good standing. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • At least 18 years old. 
  • Ability to work under supervision of a BCBA or qualified supervisor. 
  • Successful completion of background screening and any school district clearance requirements. 
  • Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, or related needs. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working in a school, classroom, ESE, or pediatric setting. 
  • Experience supporting students with autism, ADHD, emotional/behavioral disorders, or developmental delays. 
  • CPI, PCM, or other crisis prevention/de-escalation training. 
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, or a related field. 
  • Bilingual skills, especially English/Spanish. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Basic knowledge of ABA principles and school-based behavior supports. 
  • Ability to follow behavior plans and teacher direction consistently. 
  • Ability to build rapport with students while maintaining professional boundaries. 
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during challenging behaviors. 
  • Ability to document data accurately and use school or agency data systems. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. 


Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the school day. 
  • Ability to keep pace with students across classrooms and campus settings. 
  • Ability to lift up to [25–50] pounds, if needed. 
  • Ability to respond safely to behaviors such as elopement, aggression, or self-injury using trained procedures. 


Work Environment 

  • Elementary, middle, or high school setting. 
  • Work may occur in general education classrooms, ESE classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, buses, and other school locations. 
  • Regular school-day schedule, with possible attendance at meetings, trainings, or occasional after-school activities.
