Desired Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience and proven abilities in:
- Significant experience supporting FOIA, federal records review, information disclosure, litigation support, or related legal and regulatory functions
- Extensive knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), including federal FOIA requirements, exemptions, redactions, records review, and applicable policies and procedures; experience supporting a federal agency is highly preferred
- Demonstrated experience independently managing complex and sensitive FOIA requests, including reviewing request scope, coordinating records collection, conducting first-level document review, applying redactions, and supporting timely case resolution
- Experience conducting legal and quality assurance reviews of FOIA response packages, including evaluating the legal basis for proposed redactions, identifying potential issues, and ensuring responses comply with applicable FOIA requirements
- Ability to provide FOIA-related guidance to program staff and subject matter experts, including developing written and verbal instructions regarding records searches, document review, responsiveness, exemptions, and information appropriate for release
- Advanced experience with eDiscovery and FOIA processing platforms, such as Veritas Clearwell, FOIA Online, FOIAXpress, or comparable systems, including searching, organizing, tagging, deduplicating, importing/exporting, and redacting records
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with government attorneys, agency leadership, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders on high-profile or sensitive FOIA matters, including matters with potential litigation or significant organizational risk
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing briefing materials, status reports, legal or policy recommendations, taskers, and executive-level correspondence
- Expert proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace, with exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated experience performing quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on large or complex document productions
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize a high volume of FOIA cases, identify potential backlogs or risks, recommend process improvements, and manage competing deadlines independently; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 federal background investigation/security clearance, as required
Basic Qualifications and Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D) degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
- Superb oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel, Google Suite)
- Experience with multi-tasking in a fast-paced and fast-growing company
- Ability to think strategically, analytically, and proactively about diverse business solutions
Operating Status:
This specific role will be fully remote but candidate must be local to the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Physical Qualification(s) Required:
- Work is performed in an office environment
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
- Responsible for adhering to all established safety standards
