Job Summary

M1 is looking for a Metal Trades Assistant who be assigned to the Structural Repair, Machine, or Welding Shop. The Metal

Trades Assistant will perform basic sheet metal, fiberglass, and plastic repairs, and the fabrication of elementary parts using

equipment common to metal working shops. They will accomplish basic structural repair, machining, and welding

tasks. They will perform on and off-equipment maintenance on assigned aircraft, engines, and support equipment.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs basic repairs and modifications as directed by applicable technical data, including metal,
  
  

fiberglass, plastic, and honeycomb components.

• Performs basic maintenance and repair and cleaning of assigned equipment.
• Enters required data on maintenance forms and updates CAMS. Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft
  
  

records and is knowledgeable in CAMS documentation.

• Maintains shop equipment and hand tools IAW established procedures.
• Assists metals processing specialist and performs other basic metal working tasks within the metal
  
  

processing shops.

• Operates portable fire-fighting equipment.
• May be assigned to maintain TO files, bench stock, shop stock, CTKs, or hazardous waste areas.
• Practices good housekeeping, tool control, and FOD prevention/awareness, and safety at all times.
• Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed.
• Must promote Company values, policies, and standards of conduct.
• Must be customer oriented and ensure professional coordination with base agencies.
• Must be able to work day shift, night shift, or weekend duty as required.
• Shall perform other duties assigned to include TDY and travel.
• Receives cross-utilization training (CUT) and is qualified to perform those maintenance tasks
• Accomplishes all actions with the guidance of higher grade personnel.

• A basic knowledge of the metal working trade of the area assigned, including the use of drawings, blueprints,
  
  

and maintenance instructions is required.

• Must have completed an approved formal metal working course.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Completion of high school or the equivalent is required.
  
  

Working Conditions

• Physical exertion requirement is medium.
• When using a respirator, must be able to obtain a good face-to-face piece seal.
