PEER RECOVERY COACH

Summary

Provide peer recovery support services to clients involved in substance abuse treatment services. Uses strengths-based approaches to assist clients in achieving sustained recovery from their substance use disorder by building resources and community support networks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

· Uses own lived experiences with incarceration and /or substance use recovery as a vehicle to establish rapport and build relationships with the individuals served.

· Offers insight into the experience of living with a substance use disorder and/or other lived experiences (such as incarceration, homelessness, etc.) and relevant supports to assist program and partners in identifying program-specific services and linkages that are conducive to recovery and workforce engagement.

· Responds to recoveree concerns by identifying, developing, and expanding upon their strengths and capacities.

· Assists recoverees in accessing and effectively using community resources related to housing, medical care, education, vocational training, and access to social, spiritual or leisure activities, etc. before, during, and after addiction treatment services.

· Teaches and models daily living and recovery management skills with recoverees in real world settings. Completes the necessary related documentation to the above-described duties. Provides presentations, group facilitation and trainings within the community as needed.

· Attends and/or conducts team meetings, outreach events and trainings.

· Mentoring and providing leadership to other coaches.

Qualifications

· Can not be on any disciplinary action in the past 6 months.

· If you have history of a substance use disorder, you must have been in recovery.

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

· Completion of Peer Recovery Coach Training. Additional/Advanced Certifications encouraged but not required.

· Valid Driver’s license.

· Valid Auto insurance.

· Completion of background check, National and State Sex Offender Registry check, and OIG Exclusion List.

· Driver’s License record review.

Required Skills

· Knowledge of the disease of substance abuse through direct working experience or course work.

· Knowledge of motivational interviewing, engagement strategies, co-occurring disorders, stages of change theory, and community resources.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize and be detail oriented.

· Able to maintain 100% client confidentiality.

Other Skills/Qualifications

· Strong belief in family centered practice.

· ROSC (Recovery Orientated Systems of Care).

· Ability to provide services or refer to services that assist/enrich the recoveree and recoverees’ family members.

· Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.

· Comfortable working independently in the community setting.

· Open-mindedness about multiple paths to recovery.

· Ability to focus on and reinforce positive strengths and behaviors.

· Ability to share personal substance use disorder long term recovery experience.

· Knowledge of creating client-centered recovery and transition plans helpful.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Working conditions/ Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies to health fairs, presentations and/or other public forums. 50 Pounds Maximum.

· The work is performed in an office environment. Minimal bending, stooping, kneeling or lifting involved. Position may require travel within workforce delivery area boundaries.

· This position may require working hours outside of standard 9am-5pm business hours.

Equipment Used

Computer, Copier/Fax/Printer, Multi-line Telephone System, Movable shelving system.

Work Environment

· Flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and holidays. As required.

· Travel may be required

· Services will be provided in the community, at the Continuum Recovery of Colorado office, at the recoveree’s home, or other community setting.

· Transport recoverees and their family members as needed to meet Recovery Plan Objectives.

*All employees are subject to random UA screenings in applicable states.

Salary

Salary Rates WA: $18-$24 per hour
