Title: Part-Time Care Coordination / Patient Advocacy Assistant (RN, NP, PA, PhD, or advanced health-sciences student)
Location: Mostly remote (phone/email) with occasional in-person visits in Santa Monica / Westside LA
Hours: 10–20 hours/week, flexible
About the role:
Seeking a medically knowledgeable person to help coordinate care for a patient with complex neurologic and toxic-exposure-related illness receiving care through Providence Saint John’s Health Center (Santa Monica) and other providers.
Ideal candidate:
- RN / NP / PA / PhD in a health field or advanced student in nursing, medicine, or public health
- Familiar with hospital operations (experience at UCLA, Cedars, Providence Saint John’s or other LA-area hospital strongly preferred)
- Comfortable communicating/directing with physicians’ offices, scheduling staff, and hospital departments
- Organized, empathetic, and able to track complex timelines, medications, and consults
Key responsibilities:
- Help build and maintain a clear medical timeline (exposures, symptoms, tests, treatments)
- Coordinate appointments and follow-up among neurology, toxicology, immunology, and other specialists
- Request, organize, and track medical records and imaging reports
- Draft concise summaries/questions for upcoming doctor visits
- Join telehealth or in-person visits (when allowed) to take notes and track next steps
- Communicate with hospital departments (case management, social work, navigator programs) on the patient’s behalf
Compensation:
- Hourly, commensurate with experience
- Independent contractor (1099) or part-time arrangement
This role is non-clinical: you will not provide hands-on medical care or make treatment decisions. You will act as a knowledgeable coordinator and advocate to help the patient and family navigate a complex medical situation.
