Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct reviews of civil, architectural, and engineering designs, specifications, and construction plans to ensure compliance with ADA, ABAAS, and other accessibility regulations.
- Perform field inspections, audits, and on-site assessments of WMATA stations, facilities, and infrastructure to verify accessibility compliance.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to integrate accessibility solutions and resolve field-related compliance issues.
- Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and recommendations for corrective actions on non-compliant elements.
- Advise project teams on best practices for accessible design, construction, and execution.
- Develop and support quality assurance procedures to ensure accessibility compliance throughout all project phases, including design, construction, and closeout.
- Stay current with federal, state, and local accessibility standards and regulations, and apply them to project planning and execution.
- Support training and awareness initiatives to promote ADA compliance across project teams.
- Attend required meetings and perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in civil engineering, ADA compliance, accessibility review, or quality assurance for public infrastructure or transit projects (8–10 years preferred for senior-level roles).
- Strong knowledge and in-depth understanding of ADA, ABAAS, UFAS, and other accessibility guidelines.
- Proficiency in civil engineering and design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; resulting in proper documentation, reporting, and use of field inspection tools.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations effectively
- Experience working on WMATA or similar transit agency projects highly preferred.
- Certification as an Accessibility Specialist (e.g., CASp, ADA Coordinator Training Certification).
