Position Summary:
The GIS Support Specialist will provide technical and analytical support in the creation, maintenance, and integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) data within engineering projects. This role bridges engineering principles with spatial data management to ensure accurate mapping, data integrity, and effective project planning. The ideal candidate will use their background in mechanical or civil engineering to apply GIS tools for infrastructure analysis, asset management, and design support.
Key Responsibilities:
- GIS Data Management & Analysis
- Develop, update, and maintain GIS datasets, maps, and related spatial databases for engineering projects.
- Perform spatial analysis to support engineering design, planning, and asset management.
- Integrate CAD drawings and engineering data into GIS platforms.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of all spatial data across systems.
- Technical & Application Support
- Provide GIS support to engineering and field staff, including troubleshooting data and software issues.
- Assist with GIS application configuration, map services, and data visualization.
- Create high-quality maps, figures, and digital content for project reports and presentations.
- Collaboration & Project Support
- Work closely with civil and mechanical engineers to incorporate GIS data into design and construction planning.
- Support field data collection using GPS and mobile GIS applications.
- Coordinate with IT and project teams to ensure data interoperability and system efficiency.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain metadata, documentation, and version control for GIS data.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards, local regulations, and project requirements.
- Implement data validation and quality control procedures.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline (required).
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in GIS applications or spatial data management (internships or project experience acceptable for entry-level candidates).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, or ArcGIS Online).
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD software.
- Familiarity with GPS data collection and field data integration.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, plans, and infrastructure systems.
- Knowledge of databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar) is a plus.
- Scripting or automation experience (Python, ModelBuilder, or ArcPy) preferred.
Soft Skills:

Preferred Certifications (not required but beneficial):
