Role Summary

The Financial Planning Consultant serves as a strategic partner to Member Firms by providing consultative financial planning support that enables advisors to deepen client relationships and uncover actionable growth opportunities. This role works directly with Member Firms to assist in building financial plans, analyzing client scenarios, and translating plan outcomes into implementable investment and insurance strategies that drive measurable production and revenue growth.

This position blends technical financial planning expertise with a consultative, opportunity-aware mindset. While not directly selling to clients, the Consultant partners with advisors to identify and advance planning-based opportunities across investments, insurance, retirement, and risk management solutions.

Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Paraplanning Support

  • Support Member Firm advisors in the creation, review, and refinement of comprehensive financial plans.
  • Well versed in all aspects of holistic planning, such as tax, estate, charitable giving, and business planning concepts and execution.
  • Strong ability to ensure tight integration into cash flow analysis and how insurance and investments play a role in maximizing cash flow.
  • Model client scenarios using financial planning software to analyze outcomes and trade-offs.
  • Provide guidance on planning assumptions, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Help advisors translate plan results into clear, actionable implementation steps.

Consultative Engagement & Opportunity Identification

  • Partner with advisors to identify investment and life insurance opportunities revealed through the planning process.
  • Apply discovery-based questioning to uncover additional client needs.
  • Serve as a thought partner to advisors by offering planning-driven growth ideas.
  • Support advisors in positioning next steps aligned with client goals and risk profiles.

Investment & Insurance Knowledge Application

  • Maintain working knowledge of advisory investment platforms and portfolio construction concepts.
  • Demonstrate understanding of retirement, income, and risk management strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal Insurance and Investment teams to align planning outcomes.

Member Firm Relationship Support

  • Serve as a trusted planning resource for assigned Member Firms.
  • Build credibility through technical competence and proactive support.
  • Track advisor engagement and opportunity trends in Salesforce.

Platform & Planning Enablement

  • Support effective use of financial planning tools, including eMoney.
  • Facilitate advisor training to enhance planning proficiency.
  • Stay current on planning software enhancements and product developments.

Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Wealth, Investment, Insurance, and Platform teams to ensure cross-company collaboration and outcomes.
  • Share planning insights and successful use cases across the team.
  • Contribute to development of scalable planning tools and resources.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or similar field preferred.
  • CFP or CWS designation preferred or actively pursuing.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial planning, paraplanning, or advisor-facing consulting roles.
  • Experience supporting financial advisors with plan construction and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with financial planning software; eMoney preferred.
  • Experience working within RIA and/or broker-dealer environments.
  • Strong understanding of life insurance solutions and how they fit within a financial plan
  • Strong consultative and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple advisor engagements.
  • Professional, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to translate complex planning concepts into actionable guidance.

Job Conditions & Environment

  • This position is based on-site at our offices in Uptown at the Quad in Dallas, TX with the flexibility to work one day per week remotely
  • Normal office environment/desk assignment
  • Travel approximately 10% of the time
  • Extensive use of PC’s, computer terminal, display, keyboard, and mouse
  • Extensive work with documents, spreadsheets, and other written documents
