Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Structural Steel Manager to oversee the fabrication, assembly, and installation of structural steel components. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive construction site experience, and a comprehensive understanding of welding, blueprint reading, and fabrication processes. This role involves coordinating teams, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining high standards of quality in all projects. The Structural Steel Manager will play a critical role in managing daily operations to meet project deadlines while adhering to industry standards and codes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the fabrication, welding, and installation of structural steel components on construction sites.
- Oversee the use of various tools and machinery including power tools, hand tools, plasma cutters, press brake machines, and rigging equipment.
- Ensure all work complies with blueprints, schematics, ASME codes & standards, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to plan workflows and resource allocation.
- Conduct quality inspections utilizing calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to ensure precision in fabrication.
- Manage safety protocols on-site, including crane operations, rigging procedures, and the use of forklifts.
- Supervise team members performing welding (MIG, TIG, FCAW), structural steel, miscellaneous metal fabrication and field erection and installation in general.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to fabrication processes and project progress.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to machinery or structural components during fabrication or installation phases.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards throughout all project phases.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction site management with a focus on structural steel projects.
- Extensive knowledge of welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW; must be familiarity with
welding, structural steel and miscellaneous metal. - Proficiency in blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
- Hands-on experience with power tools, hand tools, plasma cutting equipment, press brake machines, welding at the field and fabrication at the shop and other fabrication machinery.
- Strong understanding of rigging operations, crane safety procedures, forklift operation, machining processes, and pipe threading.
- Mechanical knowledge related to manufacturing processes such as handrails, guardrails, RTU supports, canopies, heavy duty structural steel erection and assembly.
- Ability to read technical schematics and ASME codes & standards for quality assurance.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coordinate multiple teams effectively under tight deadlines.
- Valid certifications in welding (such as AWS), rigging or crane operation are highly desirable.
- Construction site experience is essential; prior management roles are preferred but not mandatory for highly skilled candidates. This position offers an opportunity to lead complex projects within a dynamic environment that values safety excellence and technical expertise.
