Controller

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close and produce accurate financial statements

• Prepare WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

• Manage job cost accounting and report budget vs. actual by project

• Forecast and manage cash flow, including pay app timing, retainage, and payables

• Prepare financial packages for surety, banking, and certification programs

• Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures

• Handle AP/AR and bank and credit card reconciliations

• Reconcile payroll from our outside payroll provider to the books

• Manage 1099s, sales and use tax, and serve as the point of contact with our outside CPA

Qualifications

• 5 years of accounting experience, with controller-level responsibility

• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks

• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion, and retainage

• Comfortable working hands-on in the books as well as at the reporting level

• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently

• Degree in accounting or finance preferred; CPA a plus

• Schedule: 20 hours/week, in office, days and hours set with the President

• Location: Columbia, SC

• Pay: $30 to $45/hour, based on experience
