Summary:M&DK Contractors is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, proficiency with various accounting software, and the ability to manage multiple financial tasks accurately. This role is essential in maintaining the integrity of our financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards, and supporting overall financial health. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
· Posts journal entries and maintains general ledger.
· Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and nonprofit reporting standards
· Handle special projects, working directly with the Controller.
· Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
· Reconciles bank accounts, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
· Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
· Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
· Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
· Maintain detailed documentation of all bookkeeping activities for audit purposes.
· Files required tax forms and licenses with federal, state, and local government agencies.
· Allocates expenditures to correct accounts according to departmental procedures.
· Predicts, plans, and records variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs.
· Reviews and analyzes actual costs to identify inaccuracies.
· Prepares necessary departmental and company-wide monthly, quarterly and annual budgeting.
· Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual profit margins.
· Performs month-end and year-end closings with assistance.
· Determines and recommends cost-effective solutions.
· Assist the Director of Finance with payroll processing and tax-related activities to ensure compliance with governmental regulations.
· Collaborate with PMs and Directors during month-end close and forecast updates to ensure financial accuracy
· Collaborates with COO, PMs and related staff in maintaining cost codes and projects budgets
· As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Thorough understanding of bookkeeping practices and procedures and the ability to train others in related practices and procedures.
· Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
· Ability to use accounting software to record, store, and analyze financial data.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:· High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree with accounting coursework preferred.
· At least three years of bookkeeping experience required, preferably in the construction industry.
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
